Abstract

Imagine a school that demonstrates the virtues that hold a community together such as trust, responsibility and respect. Integrated all phases of a child's school life and future success as a citizen can be the virtues of character. Every day young children go to school to learn basic core subject matter in hopes of gaining the skills necessary for success in today's society, yet face violence, peer cruelty and a degrading moral character. Ever increasing is the need to counter this pervasive trend and in today's market in today's world children need to be educated socially, emotionally and morally. Character Education helps children from every cultural background and econimic level, particularly in the early years of learning, to develop an understanding of the value of responsibility, respect and self-discipline which are essential life-skills needed to face real-life situations with a sense of empowerment and integrity. The overall goal of character education is to help kids function in society with recognizably accepted virtues that are a community's best values and ethical ideals. The information presented in this paper will demonstrate how our society can no longer afford not to integrate character education if we as a nation intend to continue to build leaders among its' young citizens. Essentially, leadership begins in the early years of life and is developed from character education.
