Abstract

Right now, thousands of children are being denied an Arts education in our public schools. For my Capstone project I created a radio Public Service announcement to launch a public awareness campaign. The campaign is meant to inspire parents, teachers, students and community members to advocate for getting Arts education back into our schools. The PSA directs listeners to a website that has a collection of links to local and national movements already in progress. Creativity is the number one ability our children need to have in order to be successful in the 21st century. Creativity generates creative problem-solving, critical thinking skills and strong leadership. These skills foster innovation, new technology, new jobs, and positive solutions. When children get an Arts education their creativity will be developed and nurtured and we all benefit as a society. The ability to get Arts Education back in public schools rests in the power of individuals to advocate for the rights of our children. In my initial research I focused on the specific details of a visual arts education. Included are the many dimensions of a visual arts education as well as the benefits associated with providing such an education.
