Abstract

Parental involvement is an important factor in a child’s life as it motivates children to improve and thrive academically. For this Capstone project the researcher investigated the obstacles parents have that prevent them from being involved in their children’s classrooms and how it benefits the children when they are involved. Data was collected through parent, teacher, student observations, surveys, and interviews. Results revealed that parents with no job flexibility, busy family lifestyles, and having a language barrier prevents them from becoming a part of their children’s social and academic lives. A bilingual bingo game was created with children, parents, and teachers in mind to stimulate interaction between them. This action project was implemented to motivate parents and teachers to openly communicate and work together to provide children with the fundamental learning support that they need to succeed in school.
