Abstract

Due to California state budget cuts, music in many schools is being taken out of the curriculum. Participation in music helps students develop important skills such as communication, analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, adapting and cooperating. It is disheartening that students are not offered music in their education. For my capstone project, I incorporated music into language arts lessons for a 2nd grade class in Salinas. The students enjoyed learning lessons in a different and exciting way.
