Abstract

This study examined barriers faced by migrant parents that hinders the possibilities for their children to pursue a higher education. Through reviewing and analyzing the different barriers, a workshop was created focusing on educating migrant parents about the different options available when pursuing a postsecondary education. This workshop was held at the Pajaro Middle School in Watsonville with the help of the Migrant Program. This project revolved around a PowerPoint presentation and also included two surveys where parent’s feedback was received from the information presented. A pamphlet was provided to parents to take home with information about financial aid and other options on how to pay for college. Through the data collected from the surveys and discussions held with the parents, it was concluded that migrant parents lack the resources and knowledge of all help available for their children in continuance with their education after high school.
