Abstract

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has attempted to integrate the economies of the three North American Countries. The effects of regional economic integration on certain regions that are not poised to benefit from a treaty designed to liberalize trade. The historic aspect of the Mexican economy is discussed and the democratic challenges that were presented as a result of NAFTA.
