Abstract
The purpose of this capstone project was to explore the benefits and barriers to integrating comic books in classrooms to improve student motivation and engagement. This issue is extremely important because many students are neither motivated nor interested in the different subject matters that are taught within the classroom and this may negatively effect how students learn and comprehend the information being taught. Two teachers were interviewed. One teacher integrated comic books into lessons and the other did not. Throughout the course of this project, it became apparent that those teachers who are more informed about the benefits of comic book integration and the different ways of teaching are more likely to use comic books within the classroom to improve motivation and engagement. To inform others about the benefits of comic book integration, the researcher videotaped Scarlett Parker demonstrating her use of comic books within the classroom. The YouTube video is intended to make comic book integration easier and more accessible for teachers to use within the classroom.
