Abstract

Art integration provides children with a well-rounded education. It allows children to openly express themselves, build high self-esteem, and gain confidence. This project is a case study on art integration through Language Arts for second grade. Data was collected through observation and teacher interviews. It was clear that teacher preparation and time were obstacles to integrate art. After making this discovery, the researcher was able to focus her action on creating easy lesson plans, with help from the second grade teacher, to integrate art through Language Arts. Data was also collected through student interviews which was a form of assessment and indicated positive results. Each student was able to express how they felt about their writing and art, and proved that they understood the content of the lessons. This shows how art integration is beneficial for students in elementary school.
