Abstract

Health in the United States is important in general, but one disease is taking over the nation’s youngest population. The disease is obesity. Obesity in young children is seen as harmful for their health and development. Society tends to put pressure on parents due to their children being obese and the particular involvement of the parents with the children’s health. This Senior Capstone will examine the causes for young children to become obese and will determine what the effects of obesity in young children are in the following three areas of development physically, emotionally, and behaviorally. If children are being affected, the project will explore how parents can support and help make changes to have a greater impact on the children. Finally, the project will touch base on the resources and programs available for parents to support their children who are obese in the early years of development.
