Abstract
This paper investigates the effects of gangs in our public schools. This research begins with the definition of a gang, and the theories of why gang membership has been on the rise. There are descriptions of the risk factors that could lead youth to join gangs. The reader will discover what policies are presently implemented and what programs should be used to assure youth stay in school and out of gangs.
