Abstract

Special education is part of many schools today and more and more students are being referred to this type of education. For this Capstone Project two local special education teachers were interviewed about the referral process at their school site and if they believe students were being erroneously placed in special education. The teachers were also asked for suggestions for how to improve the special education referral process if they felt there were discrepancies and a better alternative or solution. Information learned from interview findings and a relevant literature review was used to develop an action project of an intervention process to use before referring students for special education services.
