Abstract
In this study I examine how framing and diffusion has played a role in the resurgence of the 4B Movement over social media. First, I reviewed literature on sociological concepts and theories such as social movement framing and diffusion as well as Almeida’s social movement model. From there, I made a coding chart where I utilized the literature review to know what to code for. Then, I began collecting data. From November 2024 to January 2025, I collected and coded 656 TikTok videos. I then analyzed each of these videos, finding that social movement framing coupled with specific environmental factors such as political climate and the fact the movement is taking place over social media have pushed the diffusion of the 4B Movement, which in turn, has pushed a resurgence. My findings have implications for further research regarding how social media fosters social movements as well as unearthing a slurry of new research questions regarding how algorithms themselves influence social movement framing and diffusion.
