Abstract
This action based research examines using regional Central Coast art and literature as an academic framework to help give incoming freshmen at CSUMB a sense of connection to their off-campus community. Unlike many campuses, CSUMB is new and is constructed on an abandoned US Army base, thus lacking many of the amenities that many college students experience with their "college towns." One of the goals of the research is to identify a way to stem attrition through student satisfaction.
