Abstract
Environmental awareness education is essential because as a society we are uninformed about the damage we are causing the Earth each and everyday. Currently there is a lack of environmental awareness education in Long Beach, California. Many teachers in the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) do not have the correct information, knowledge, funding, or a starting place for incorporating environmental awareness education into the curricula. Two interviews were conducted with current teachers in Long Beach, to determine what resources are available as well as what needs to change. After the data was collected and analyzed four themes emerged, they were: no funding for environmental awareness education, no resources available for teachers about environmental awareness education, no inclusion of environmental awareness in the curriculum and no promotion of environmental awareness education. Based on these themes, a school guidebook was made available to provide teachers, administrators, and students with different resources, ideas, lesson plans, and suggestions for the future goal of improvement of environmental awareness education school-wide.
