Abstract
The focus of this Capstone Project is on student engagement. This is an important issue because children are the future and student engagement has decreased in classrooms. Children have become unengaged with the lessons being taught in the classroom and it is important for them to be engaged to have a successful future. An argument is made that higher levels of engagement resulted in higher rates of achievement. The primary stakeholders perspectives chosen were administrators, teachers, students and parents, because they were able to provide deeper insights into student engagement. Three action options emerged from an analysis of the data as ways to address the issue presented. Incorporating mindfulness in the classroom to build teacher student relationships is argued to be the most effective way to achieve the goals of student engagement. Working with the mind and building a healthy and trusted relationship with a teacher will increase student engagement in the classroom.
