Abstract
In all media that we consume, sound is a major element in bringing that media to life. Whether it be a show, a film or a video game, sound design is essential to enhancing the experience of the audience. The practice of creating sound effects for films is known as foley, named after the man who pioneered it, Jack Foley. A foley artist’s job is creating or performing the sound post-production in time with the film. For the case of video games in particular, the sound design stages are similar and primarily in a digital format. Just like in film, every little interaction and mechanics in video games all require sound. A sound designer's role is being able to bring the video game to life using sounds. Without well executed sound design the experience of the player would not be the same.
