Abstract
Friday Night Live is a youth-led substance abuse prevention program that empowers youth to address community issues. In support of the Friday Night Live mission, we hosted a group of youth on a summit in Anaheim, CA, for my capstone project. Trip Components like transportation, flights, permission slips, finances, and lodging were crucial in making this event happen. With the implementation of this project, we hoped the participating youth would gain an experience that would inspire them to take the lead in promoting solutions in response to community issues. Most youth who participated in the summit deemed this experience valuable, encouraging them to take more interest in being part of policy and decision-making. Through this experience, the agency was able to create a planning workbook that will make it easy for all staff in the future to continue to make more opportunities like this available.
