Abstract

A social problem within the Hispanic community is lack of parent-child interaction in early childhood. Contributing factors are lack of parent education, parent time management, and poor parenting skills. A consequence is lack of parent support, low motivation for learning for the child, and child developing educational deficits/behavioral problems. The Monterey County Free Libraries - Greenfield Branch is a non profit organization. The purpose of the parent-child workshop is to provide a welcoming environment and opportunity for parent-child bonding, interaction, and connection. The expected outcome is for parents to learn how to be more present in their child’s education. As a result of the workshop parents had an experience of bonding with their children. Parents acquired skills throughout the program which will be helpful to set their kids up for success.
