Abstract
Many elementary school students lack awareness of family diversity. When students lack an awareness of family diversity, they may develop prejudices, may inadvertently insult their peers, and even demonstrate intolerant attitudes towards people of different types of families. When elementary school students become aware of family diversity, they are more inclusive and may develop a broader perspective about the world. In order to address the lack of awareness of family diversity among elementary school children, I have developed a two-day lesson on family diversity for second graders at Bardin Elementary School in Salinas, California.
