Abstract

Greenfield High School struggles with providing mental health services to its students. This is due to Greenfield High School facing many difficulties due to being located in a rural area with limited resources. The Panorama survey is a questionnaire that was introduced at Greenfield High School. The purpose of the survey was to determine if students were facing challenges with their mental health to allocate funds for necessary services. The survey questionnaire was based on their social-emotional well-being, sense of belonging, perspective on their environment, and attitudes towards their teachers. Based on the Panorama data that was collected, Greenfield High School scored below 80%, or in the 19th percentile, compared to other schools nationwide. This outcome was anticipated due to existing academic challenges and a lack of classroom engagement. The next step in this project was to analyze the data in the areas that scored poorly providing additional evidence that Greenfield High School students are facing many challenges in addition to writing a proposal in hopes of pursuing the South Monterey County School District on how crucial it is to allocate funds and hire a school social worker who can offer support services. Yearly assessments are recommended that will help enable monitoring of progress and identification of any improvements. It is essential to sustain this project to continue gathering data and to help secure funds for necessary services for schools in Southern Monterey County.
