Abstract
Today’s youth are experiencing higher rates of stress and anxiety, especially those that are system-involved and/or at-risk. The Epicenter of Monterey County is a one-stop resource center for system-involved and/or at-risk youth ages 14-24 to receive support with housing, health/wellness, employment and education. The project is aimed to support The Epicenter’s health/wellness aspect. This capstone project serves the purpose of providing both the staff and community youth members at The Epicenter with an opportunity to learn an accessible way to take care of themselves, both body and mind. This would be done through a series of workshops walking through a beginner’s guide to stretching with a provided informational pamphlet, also referred to as a zine. The expected outcome of this project would be having attendees walking away with something new and helpful they would consider implementing into their lives. After said workshops, attendees reported feeling less tense and eager to start stretching more often. Moving forward, it is encouraged that The Epicenter continues these workshops while keeping an informational guide on site for youth to take or look at while visiting.
