Abstract

Newcomer students, who are new arrivals to the United States, often face emotional challenges when adjusting to a new school such as outbursts. These emotional challenges can affect their relationships, their confidence, and their ability to learn effectively.  When newcomer students learn skills to cope with adjusting, they become more successful in school and have a stronger relationship with adults and peers. Therefore, to help in this situation, I have created a two-day lesson for newcomer students in the fifth grade from Elkhorn Elementary School in Castroville, California.
