My capstone research paper explores how class and race factor into elements of authenticity Jamaican and Jamaican-Infused Music. My research proposes the significance and tradition of ska, a predecessor to reggae, and analyzes how race and class factor into authenticity in the recreation of Jamaican-infused music out of Jamaica. The reader receives insights into the historical significance of ska's first wave in Jamaica and then in the U.K and in the U.S. It will show the relationship of music and how it created unity and the entrance and relationship of ska into other countries.
