Abstract

Young children often lack the emotional vocabulary and coping skills to voice and manage their stress in a healthy manner. By strengthening their emotional competency children can foster their resilience, leading to lower mental and physical health risks later on in life. To address these topics, I have created a two day lesson on emotion identification and positive coping strategies that I will conduct in a kindergarten after school program at Porter Youth Center in Seaside, California.
