Abstract
The Monterey County Community Benefits Branch helps bridge the gap of healthcare and food insecurities for low-income residents of Monterey County. The Monterey County Children’s Health Outreach for Insurance, Care & Enrollment (MC-CHOICE) project is intended to boost the enrollment of children, families, and individuals in the Medi-Cal program. They also support and assist families in applying for CalFresh, CalWORKs and General Assistance Programs. In Monterey County there are roughly 10,000 people who are potentially eligible for Medi-Cal benefits and may not be receiving them. I evaluated the effectiveness of the MC-CHOICE project by shadowing, researching and conducting surveys to determine where the gaps are in order to bring new opportunities in forms of marketing and new outreach sites. The recommendations presented will help raise and increase awareness of the MC-CHOICE project.
