Abstract
Over the years, there has been a steady decline in students’ unstructured recess time which has an impact on students’ development. The factors that have contributed to this decline are standardized testing and other activities. These are important to students because they affect their health and development both inside and outside of the classrooms. This senior capstone examines the benefits of increasing unstructured recess time for elementary school students through the use of literature review and survey with teachers, school administrators, and parents.
