Abstract
As the demographics of the U.S. have become more diverse, cultural awareness is becoming important and necessary for our students. By incorporating cultural appropriate literature in the classroom, it promotes cultural awareness to students and teaches them that, they could change and transform society. This senior capstone examines the effects of culturally appropriate literature on elementary school students through the use of literature review and interviews with five elementary school teachers. The findings of this capstone reveal the implementing culturally appropriate literature affect students’ learning positively and recommend the continuation of using it in the classrooms.
