Abstract

The School of Counseling in Greenfield Union School District is located at The Arroyo Seco Academy Elementary School. This school serves students from grades K-6. The school counselor serves students that struggle with a variety of issues and one of them is self-esteem. Some consequences for students with low self-esteem are poor academic performance, lack of self-care, isolating and not taking care of themselves. Due to this, “Self-esteem activities” were created to provide students with skills that helped them fully learn about themselves and be confident. This is beneficial for the district as well, because it can be a tool that they can use for the other schools that have students who are struggling with low self-esteem. The contributing factors to low self-esteem are self-criticism, persistent parental support, and bullying. The goal of this project was for students to access a journal with activities that will help them develop confidence in themselves. The questionnaire was created to facilitate the development of the journals and students' needs. This project analyzes the students' needs by observations that were made on the internship site. From the observations and additional information that was given from the mentor, the self-esteem journal was created. It is recommended that in the future these activities will be utilized by the counselor with third grade students.
