Abstract
Over 57 % of the population in Monterey County are living with diabetes or have prediabetes (Robledo, 2016). In some cases the contributing factors are lack of physical activity and poor food choices, genetic and no medical insurance can lead to the problem. This can lead to consequences of obesity, health problems and lower life expectancy (NDDK, nd). However, there are many efforts the Salinas YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program is doing to address the problem with diabetes in Monterey County. As an intern there, it gave me an opportunity to learn and understand the barriers that can lead to this problem. Due to Covid-19 and California regulations the YMCA was shut down making the participants vulnerable for the disease. Creating an evaluation and finding that participants were benefiting from the program. As part of my capstone project I was able to help the agency and create a resource website for participants to use at home. The website contains exercise videos, healthy recipes and meal plans to help with their weight loss journey until the agency resumes to normal activities.
