Abstract
The Salinas River plays a critical role in the functioning of the Salinas Basin; naturally, politically and economically. From time to time the Salinas River overflows its banks to inundate cropland and residences of the basin. Monterey County is now attempting to remedy this situation through the use of two programs to improve the channel capacity of the Salinas River. This project is aimed at the evaluation and monitoring of the effectiveness of these two programs; the Regional 404 Permit process to clear sandbars and vegetation from the main channel and the Salinas River Vegetation Management Program (SRVMP) that includes the spraying of Rodeo (herbicide) in the main channel.
