Abstract

During my internship at the Salinas Community School that is based out of the Monterey County Probation Department, I was able to develop an after-school girls running group as a positive outlet for the youth to have. The community-based project consisted of a 10-week training that resulted in participating in a 10K race. I worked closely with the at-risk females students to increase their self-esteem, incorporate a healthy activity and attainable goal, and become a positive role model for the girls. The overall goal was to encourage the girls to continue their education by inspiring confidence.
