Abstract

This study examines the causes of gender imbalance in the teaching profession at the elementary school level. It has already been acknowledged that this imbalance exists, and this study pieces together data to figure out the reason for this gender imbalance. It outlines the background concepts relating to identity, such as gender roles and expectations, and their relation to the gender imbalance in teaching. This senior capstone research project reveals the causes of gender imbalance in the teaching profession at the elementary school level through a combination of literature review and surveys.
