The purpose of this capstone project was to learn more about fundraising for the Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS) program. It is important for parents and the community to understand the need for fundraisers to cover the costs of enrichment opportunities for the program. Interviews on how to fundraise were conducted with two MSHS teachers, the center supervisor and the family advocate, as well as the area manager. The two emergent themes were that the majority of the fundraising occurred during parent meetings and through raffles the parents themselves contributed to and writing donation/sponsorship letters to businesses and companies. The action involved fundraising through several enchilada platter sales and the money was used to construct a concrete planter that can be used to implement more science curriculum and grow a garden for the children. The concrete planter also had an engraved plaque consisting of all 2014 members and served as a commemoration gift. Fundraising is not easy but does have a positive impact.
