Abstract

Many people believe there are differences between students who attend public schools and those students who are homeschooled. More specifically, many believe there to be differences between the two groups in socialization (or the lack of), performance on standardized tests, and preparation for college. For this project, parents and students who are involved in the homeschool community were interviewed and surveyed. An analysis of their responses provides interesting insight to why people choose to homeschool and how effective this approach of education actually is. This is consistent with the literature which shows that children who are homeschooled often do better on tests, are just as prepared for college, and are an active member of their community. The research shows that homeschooled children can be as successful as public school students.
