Abstract
Mainstreaming, which is the integration of special education students into general classrooms, is a highly debated topic because it may have both positive and negative social effects. This study was conducted in order to seek the answer to the question: “how mainstreaming special education students into classes affect not just those students, but all students in middle school?†This study will combine previously done research and studies with a survey distributed to special education teachers and general education teachers in order to better understand the issues concerning the social effects of mainstreaming. The impact of this study will show what can be done in order to help make mainstreaming provide positive social effects and perhaps negative social effects could be prevented.
