Abstract
The epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and other health related issues is dramatically rising among children in America. Many schools have recognized this growing issue and strive to improve it. Leading a healthy lifestyle not only needs to be learned, but it also needs to be practiced in order for it to become a habit. Students and faculty members at La Mesa Elementary school in Monterey have voiced their opinions about the unappetizing food provided in the lunchroom, and the lack of nutrition lessons they receive. In order to inspire students to eat healthy and maintain a nutritious diet, I conducted mini nutrition lessons with students. The lessons were not only to teach the students about basic nutrition, but also to allow students to be conscious of the foods they eat. Nutrition lessons can be a simple tool to improving student habits and lifestyles in a way that is interactive and memorable.
