Abstract
This capstone explores the benefits of teaching core subjects through visual arts based education. The focus discusses the positive effects of visual arts on the cognitive and emotional development of elementary age children. Research provides specific examples of schools that provide visual arts based curricula for their students. Educators and other professionals in the field of education offer their view on how this type of teaching should be universally integrated into schools. Also included are the challenges schools face in implementing and maintaining this type of approach to education.
