Abstract
This project is on the possible connection between suicide and music (as a form of media). In recent years suicide rates among adolescents have grown considerably especially in America as a demographic group. Many causes have been studied but most recently the connection between music (with depressive themes and lyrics) and suicide have been under heavy research due to the large numbers of law suits carried out by families of the deceased. The project uses an in-depth literature review, a review of existing studies and interviews with mental health professionals for data in order to ascertain a consensus on the issue. The concluding evidence shows there is an indirect relationship (both statistically and theoretically) between suicide and music as it pertains to the musical tones and lyrical themes.
