Abstract

The purpose of this project was to develop a handbook that could be used by students and their families to help them through the transition process while exiting special education services. The handbook serves to guide instruction, goal setting and provides valuable timelines to parents, administrators, teachers, service providers and inter-agencies to ensure the student is given the opportunity to access all necessary resources to help them create the future they want. The manual was submitted for review by seven professionals in the field of Transition Planning throughout the United States. The content of the transition handbook was determined through extensive literature review of empirical and practical journals as well as through local, state, and federal agencies. Data regarding the format and content were collected and validated the efficacy of the handbook. The expert reviews were used to improve the final version of the manual.
