Abstract

This qualitative research study examined the use of two drama techniques - short play and improvisation - to teach English Language Learners. The purpose of conducting a study of my own teaching was to gain a better understanding of how the use of these techniques promotes a stress-free learning environment while developing students' oral language. Using qualitative research methods, I analyzed classroom observation, interview transcripts, and student journal entries. An analysis of the data revealed that student comfort and engagement increased, but student's oral language development did not develop significantly.
