Abstract

This study examines body image curriculum and policies at one private middle and high school. The study draws from interviews with students, teachers, administrators, counselors, graduates and parents. The author attempts to assess how the school addresses issues of negative body image and disordered eating among students, and formulates suggestions for improvement. A total of 38 community members were interviewed in a school that serves about 100 students in the middle and high school combined. The author found that the school curricula and policies concerning body image were in need of development. The author designed a curriculum based on the comments and concerns of the school community.
