Abstract
This action thesis is a curriculum development project for a hybrid English grammar and writing course. The course strives to present English grammar in a simplified way to encourage non-native or generation 1.5 students to become independent grammar and writing learners. The online format is in answer to the current and growing popularity of online courses for adults who have work and/or family commitments and little time for learning in traditional classroom settings. The emphasis on good grammar and writing skills in the workplace and universities requires students to have the ability to write and speak in standard formal English in order to succeed. This project suggests as well that the instructor advocate for this student population by raising awareness among colleagues and department heads of the need for more specific grammar feedback on students' written work.
