Abstract

Special education students require a certain technique of learning. One that will allow them to grow in every aspect as persons is through music and arts that can enhance their learning experience. Arts can guide and help them learn and remember the lessons. This capstone examines whether special education students responded positively or negatively toward music and arts. Through use of literature review, surveys, and interviews with teachers from the Porterville Unified School District along with a close family friend whose son is in special education classes, integrating music and the arts in lessons is found to have a positive result upon students. Through personal experience, I have seen first-hand how music and the arts could enhance students’ learning. Incorporating music and arts is an important aspect to a student's learning. It encourages creativity and help with student's unique development of personality.
