Abstract
Coming from a Migrant background and being first generation college students we understand the importance of engaging families and communities towards higher education. We wanted to raise awareness to migrant families that higher education can be accomplished. By us partnering up with Migrant Program board members we will be working together to empower Migrant families and encouraging their students to seek higher education. We hope that the migrant students can relate to us and envision themselves in higher education. We will be working with a community-based team in designing a curriculum. Our goal is to engage migrant families and the community in creating pathways for their children’s higher education career. Migrant families need to understand the importance of working together in order for their children to achieve academic success in higher education. The curriculum will be implemented in a ten-week program for Migrant families to attend in September 2015. The Migrant program will invite the migrant families to attend the summer program to educate them about higher education and other topics. Our main goal with our curriculum is to create a college going culture among Migrant families. We will plan different community and trust building exercises that will allow for the families to work together while learning about higher education.
