Abstract
Foster youth need, but often do not receive, positive external support beyond the classroom and their temporary homes. The goal of this research was to explore how a community support program is designed to help foster youth realize their potential and make use of opportunities that will help them succeed in life. Students and staff from the Epicenter, a community based center for foster youth, were interviewed about their goals in education, and how the Epicenter and has had an impact on these youth. Qualitative data collected from the interviews, together with a literature review, were used to develop an action project designed to promote foster youth’s educational success. An informational meeting was implemented in the Alisal High School District to raise student, family, and school awareness of alternative learning outlets like the Epicenter that are designed to support foster youth.
