Low; Henry Huntly Haight; Newton Booth; Romualdo Pacheco; William Irwin; George Clement Perkins; George Stoneman; Washington Bartlett; Robert W. Waterman; Henry Markham; and James Budd. Hittell also wrote about the Pacific Railroads and Second Constitutional Convention. The book also contains an index (141 pages) that includes the contents of Volumes 1-4 of the History of California.
