Context of Activity or Assignment

A five-week graphic design project - In-class critique and discussions

Purpose of Activity or Assignment

To engage students in applying a research-driven design thinking framework to conceptualize, design UI, and evaluate an interactive product solution.

Potential Pitfalls and Teaching Tips

The project engages students in a research-driven design thinking process that emphasizes problem identification, evidence evaluation, and logical reasoning. Students are guided to distinguish between assumptions and empirical evidence, apply research findings to UX/UI and interaction design decisions, and iteratively test and refine solutions through user feedback. Scaffolded instruction, a defined MVP scope, and required process documentation help mitigate the pitfalls of technology-first or assumption-based design while reinforcing open-minded inquiry, evidence-based judgment, and reflective evaluation of design outcomes.
