Abstract
Our perception, understanding and awareness of cultures outside US borders is defined and created by the source from which we learn the information. This Capstone looks at the differences between learning about cultural phenomena through popular versus scholarly works and whether building a global community, cross-cultural understanding and tolerance are promoted or made more difficult. The context of this discussion focuses on Nushu, a Women's Script on the brink of extinction in the Hunan province of China.
