Abstract
The focus of this Capstone Project is on parental involvement within Latinx migrant and immigrant families. This is an important issue for migrant and immigrant Latinx students because popular models of parental involvement often assume parents have equal time and resources for all student involvement activities. Considerations of the issue should include the perspectives of teachers and parents. Three themes/action options emerged from an analysis of the data and explored as ways to address the issue presented. These include (1) a comprehensive model of parental involvement, (2) a change in perspective of what constitutes parental involvement, (3) a better representation of Latinx migrant and immigrant families within academic institutions. A change in perspective of what constitutes parental involvement is argued to be the most effective way to achieve the goals of restructuring parental involvement of Latinx migrant and immigrant families.
