Abstract
Over the years, Latino portrayals in the media industry have had negative effects on the Latino community. In 2015, approximately 55 million Latinos, making about 18% of the total population, have made the United States their home. Latinos in the United States have been a target of stereotypes in media and have affected on how they are perceived in their daily lives. Significantly, the social issues affecting Latinos life have been clearly addressed in films and TV shows; hardly ever are Latinos portrayed as those who are able to have control of their lives and any interest in their future. They are portrayed in certain ways in which they are viewed negatively by society, which aren’t an accurate representation of Latinos. Although it immediately becomes the first impression of the audience who is not personally familiar with the Latino community our society is likely to take the misrepresentation to the heart.
